The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) and its partners recently issued a Notice of Funding Opportunity for electric vehicle charging infrastructure along interstate alternative fuel corridors.
“Releasing this funding opportunity is a key milestone for Iowa DOT,” Garrett Pedersen, Iowa DOT systems planning bureau director, said. “This is a critical step towards awarding money and getting additional electric vehicle chargers in the ground.”
The department is seeking to fund reliable fast-charging infrastructure that will enable long-distance travel.
The application deadline is March 13 and contracts will be awarded approximately 120 days later.
Information is posted on the Iowa DOT’s website, and the department will accept questions until Feb. 2. Questions and answers will be posted weekly.
In Iowa, there were more than 12,800 electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles registered as of June 2023. Every county has at least one registered electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.
Funding will be provided through Iowa’s share of federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program money.
Program formula funds support the strategic deployment of electric charging infrastructure nationwide.
The Iowa Economic Development Authority’s Energy Office provided strategic insight. The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program aligns with the Iowa Energy Plan’s objective to develop energy-efficient transportation solutions.
