The trucking industry invests $14 billion annually in technology, training and other expenditures to improve highway safety, according to a recent the American Trucking Associations’ (ATA) Safety Spend Survey.
In 2022, the industry invested $14 billion, more than 40 percent more than 2015, the last time ATA conducted the survey.
The Safety Spend Survey categorized fleets’ investments in incentives, onboard safety, compliance costs, safety-related maintenance, and technology, training.
ATA surveyed motor carriers ranging from a few trucks to more than 10,000 vehicles. The companies represent nearly 170,000 drivers and nearly 160,000 trucks.
“Trucking is a diverse industry, but our survey results show that regardless of carrier size or type, these companies are committed – just as ATA is committed – to reducing crashes and making our highways safer,” said Dan Horvath, ATA senior vice president of Regulatory Affairs and Safety Policy. “These investments go far beyond simply complying with existing regulations. Our industry’s commitment to deploying the latest technologies, providing additional training, and incentivizing safe driving behaviors show just how seriously we take the job of reducing crashes on our highways.”
ATA has more than 37,000 members with membership open to individual professionals through the organization’s councils, industry suppliers & allied companies, for-hire motor carriers, private carriers, and shippers.
