On Thursday, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced it would be considering a congestion pricing program report from the Traffic Mobility Review Board.
The report includes recommendations about the tolling structure for the Central Business District Tolling in New York City. Those recommendations will be considered on Dec. 6 by the Board of the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority (TBTA), as well as the MTA Board. The MTA board said it is considering beginning the rate making process, which includes providing the public with a proposed toll schedule.
The rate making process for Central Business District toll amounts provides the public with months to review the proposed tolls schedules, officials said, similar to the State Administrative Procedures Act public review process for MTA fares and toll increases. The MTA said it would also hold a series of hybrid virtual and in-person public hearings about the toll amounts, in addition to opening up the process for public comments.
“I am so grateful that this all-star panel has produced an incredibly thoughtful, detailed and balanced report that points the way forward for effective implementation of congestion pricing,” MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber said. “Congestion pricing will mean less traffic, cleaner air, safer streets and better transit.”
The hearings will be held in February, officials said. Once the hearings have concluded, the MTA board will review input and then schedule a vote on the toll rate schedule.
