Georgia Ports Authority hosts Savannah State of the Port event

Georgia Ports Authority leaders recently hosted a Savannah State of the Port event to provide an update on its $1.9 billion master plan and infrastructure investments.

During fiscal year 2023, the authority handled 5.4 million twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU).

Other updates include:

A partnership with CSX provides Carolina Connector service to Rocky Mount, N.C., and a partnership with Norfolk Southern to serve Northeast Georgia is in the works. Blue Ridge Connector service to Gainesville, Ga., will begin in 2026.

The Garden City Terminal has an annual capacity of 7.5 million TEU. Container Berth 1 renovations were completed in August. Eight new STS cranes will be operation in January. At Container Berth 2, four more STS cranes will be operational in December.

Phase 1 of the newly constructed, 100 acre Garden City Terminal West Storage Yard will open next month.

Berth and container yard renovations are underway at the Ocean Terminal. In January 2025, a 1,325-foot berth will be completed. In June 2026, a second berth will be finished. Berth 13 construction begins this month.

The South Atlantic Chassis Pool 3.0 will provide the Port of Savannah with refurbished chassis.

A $260 million project to improve infrastructure at the Port of Brunswick is underway.
