The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) recently opened the new I-10 west flyover ramp to the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) in Kenner.
“We are excited about this great news, which is a testament to our continued commitment to improving Louisiana’s infrastructure that will provide pivotal access to thousands of people every single day,” Gov. John Bel Edwards said. “Construction began in early 2020, and here we are today with a new ramp that will provide travelers easy access to the recently constructed state-of-the-art Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport terminal by passing over the Loyola/Veterans Boulevard. intersection, dropping drivers right onto Terminal Drive.”
The ramp is part of the $125.6 million I-10/Loyola Drive Interchange Project which began construction in 2020.
A second flyover ramp, adjacent to the first, will allow vehicles exiting the airport to merge directly onto I-10 east toward New Orleans. It will open later this month.
The ramps will increase traffic flow in and out of the airport. They also will ease congestion off the Loyola Drive exit, the main entryway to the airport.
The project also includes widening I-10 to four lanes in each direction between LA 49 and the Loyola Drive exits. This will allow airport traffic to have less of an impact on interstate traffic and will ease congestion.
