Only 20 percent of shippers are satisfied with the level of communication and visibility they receive from their Logistics Service Providers (LSPs), according to a recent survey Tive, an end-to-end shipment visibility solutions provider, conducted with FreightWaves.
Many logistics professionals associate visibility only with basic location tracking and don’t take into consider a broader spectrum of visibility-enhancing technologies.
Visibility gaps were found in all modes. Over-the-road shipping ranked the highest in terms of visibility for shippers.
Nearly 90 percent of shippers track shipment location, but only 56 percent do so in real time.
More than 80 percent of survey respondents expressed a strong desire for real-time shipment insights that go beyond simple location tracking.
Only 4 percent of shippers are currently “very satisfied” with the shipment communications they receive from their LSPs.
“These results highlight a gap in the industry’s expectation of shipment visibility solutions,” Krenar Komoni, Tive CEO and founder, said. “As the survey clearly shows, shippers expect more from their LSPs. Complete visibility goes beyond tracking the location of goods — it also encompasses real-time data on shipment conditions, including temperature, shock, light, and more.”
The survey of more than 500 logistics and supply chain professionals was conducted over a two-month period earlier this year.
