The Texas Transportation Commission recently approved $96 million in state and federal funds for 79 public transportation providers and planning agencies statewide.
Funding will be used to operate and maintain integrated mobility services.
“Rural communities and surrounding areas can sometimes have limited options for transportation, and these transit agencies provide a lifeline for those who need it most,” Texas Transportation Commissioner Alvin New said. “This funding will help make sure Texans can get to where they need to go safely and reliably.”
Bluebonnet Trails Community Services received funding to employ around-the-clock language services. This will allow mobility managers better coordinated transit for non-English speaking passengers.
Rolling Plains Management Corporation received funding to build a 6,000-square-foot administrative and operations center that will house its SHARP Lines Rural Public Transportation dispatch, administration and training activities. The new facility will be attached to the existing bus storage and maintenance building in Crowell.
East Texas Council of Governments, Tyler and Longview received funding to provide a seamless network of transportation services through a combination of state and federal grant programs that address the diverse needs of their communities.
The Texas Department of Transportation maintains 80,000 miles of road and supports aviation, maritime, rail, and public transportation.
