New York state is investing $82.7 million in Chautauqua County’s infrastructure projects.

A total of $78 million has been allocated to a project that will rehabilitate the bridges carrying Interstate 86, the Southern Tier Expressway, over Chautauqua Lake in Ellery and North Harmony. Work is underway.

A total of $4.7 million has been allocated to rehabilitating State Route 430 and State Route 394 in Jamestown. Work will be completed at the end of the month.

The Interstate 86 Bridges project includes four bridges and is expected to completed in autumn 2026.

A bridge carrying westbound I-86 ramps to State Route 430 will receive new bridge joints and will be resurfaced.

Two, 500-foot-long bridge structures that split off the eastern end of the main bridge and the 3,790-foot-long main bridge crossing Chautauqua Lake will receive new concrete bridge decks, bridge barriers, bearings and steel repairs. The three bridges carry eastbound and westbound traffic.

The Jamestown project converted four-lanes of traffic to three on Washington Street Fluvanna Avenue to West Second Street to allow for a two-way left-turn lane. Work also included new bicycle lanes, drainage improvements, new curb ramps and crosswalks, pedestrian signals with countdown timers, and resurfacing Washington Street and Fairmount Avenue.
