School districts across the country looking to switch to battery-electric zero-emission buses can now get help with grant applications from Build Your Dreams (BYD).
BYD, a battery-electric bus manufacturer, said it will help school districts with applications for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 2023 Clean School Bus Grant Program. The program, which has $400 million in funding this fiscal year, provides qualified school districts with funding to switch to battery-electric buses.
“We are happy to help children across the U.S breathe cleaner air,” said Patrick Duan, BYD’s Senior Vice President. “The transition to pure electric alternatives at local schools will not only help improve air quality, but it will reduce emissions, and save districts and communities money for years to come.”
The 5-year, $5 billion program provides funding based on bus fuel type, bus class size, number of buses being replaced and the prioritization status of the district. Through this year’s grant applications, the EPA will support the changeover of 500,000 internal combustion school buses to zero-emission alternatives, the agency said.
BYD has more than 1,000 battery-electric buses on the road or in production in the United States, and has created hundreds of jobs making the buses that help clean the air while improving efficiency and districts’ bottom line. BYD offers two eligible battery-electric school bus models under the Clean School Bus Program – the Achiever (Type A) and the Dreamer (Type D).
