Amtrak plans built or renovate facilities in Seattle, Boston, New York City, and Washington, D.C.
The facilities, which are in the procurement phase, will improve train maintenance and repairs, inspection and cleaning for Amtrak’s fleet.
“These modern maintenance facilities are an essential part of Amtrak’s plans to introduce new state-of-the-art passenger trainsets around the country,” Norman Forde, Amtrak vice president of project delivery fleet and facilities, said. “Thanks to funding provided by the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act, Amtrak can upgrade our existing rail yards with modern facilities that feature additional working space and enable more efficient maintenance practices.”
Additional sites are also planned including one in Philadelphia that is in the procurement phase and seeking proposals.
Each site will house various facilities including areas for major extended repairs and overhauls; routine maintenance, inspections and refueling; and routine maintenance and inspections, cleaning and utility access.
Interested companies are encouraged to visit Amtrak’s Procurement Portal to read the publication “Advance Notice to the Construction Industry.”
The publication alerts interested companies about upcoming procurement opportunities, the lead time required to prepare bids and establish relationships, including participation from Disadvantaged Business Enterprise firms.
Amtrak will use this approach with other construction projects.
