The Transit Infrastructure Fund (TIF) recently awarded $39.2 million in grants to 36 transit-related infrastructure projects in 25 communities in Ohio’s Hamilton County.

The passage of Issue 7 in May 2020 created TIF. It established a 0.8 percent sales tax levy to support Metro bus operations and fund infrastructure improvements within Metro’s Hamilton County service area. A total of 0.2 percent of revenue goes into the infrastructure fund annually for transit-related infrastructure projects, including bridges, roads, and sidewalks.

“The Transit Infrastructure Fund is a critical piece of the Reinventing Metro plan,” Metro General Manager and CEO Darryl Haley said. “This year’s recipient’s projects reflect pedestrian safety improvements, the addition of bike lanes, trails, and fiber optics, as well as bridge repairs – all of which go to ensure a future-focused, multi-modal community for all commuters in our region.”

Projects receiving funding include trail crossing improvements for the Wasson Way and the installation of a fiber network in Over-the-Rhine and the West End areas of Cincinnati; new sidewalks and bus pull-off bays along Colerain Avenue in Colerain Township; improvements to multiple intersections along North Bend Road in Green Township; pedestrian and other safety improvements along Montgomery Road in Norwood; and sidewalk improvements along Springfield Pike and Grueninger Way in Woodlawn.
