The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) recently awarded Ohio’s Mahoning County a $2.4 million grant to support the Mahoning Avenue Industrial Corridor Upgrade project.

Local funding will provide $3 million toward the project, which will better position the corridor as an attractive location for job growth and business expansion. Work will include bridge replacements, drainage enhancements, roadway upgrades, and other necessary improvements.

The project is expected to create or retain more than 140 jobs and generate $5 million in private investment, according to grantee estimates.

“President Biden is committed to supporting communities across the country as they work to grow their local economies,” Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said. “This EDA investment will provide the infrastructure to facilitate a safe and efficient transportation system to serve the region’s manufacturing and energy sectors.”

“Ohio communities face a heavy burden when they have to pay to upgrade local infrastructure,” U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) said. “Thanks to this investment, Mahoning County will be able to repair critical roadways while creating jobs and attracting new investment.”

The EDA advances the federal economic development agenda by preparing regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy and promoting competitiveness.
