The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) board of directors recently elected Washington State Department of Transportation Secretary Roger Millar as its 2022-2023 president.

Millar has been secretary since 2016. In that role, he oversees a complex, multimodal transportation system and an agency responsible for ensuring that people and goods move safely and efficiently.

He is a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Institute of Certified Planners.

In addition, he is a National Complete Streets Coalition Steering Committee member, chairman of the Intelligent Transportation Society of America’s board of directors, and president of the American Society of Civil Engineers Transportation and Development Institute.

“To be entrusted with this national leadership role at a time of great transformation is an incredible honor and responsibility,” Millar said. “As president, I will use resilience as a lens to view and define what a safe, sound, and smart multimodal transportation system is.”

The board also elected Michigan Department of Transportation Director Paul Ajegba as its 2022-2023 vice president.

Ajegba was appointed to the department in 2019. He is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Michigan, a Conference of Minority Transportation Officials member, and serves on the board of directors of numerous organizations, including AASHTO.
