The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) recently awarded $18.4 million in Bridge Investment Program grants to 23 projects in 23 states.
This is the first round of grants from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. A total of $20 million will be awarded in fiscal year 2022. The remaining $1.6 million will be awarded to projects identified under the upcoming Large Bridge Project grant awards.
The law will invest $12.5 billion over five years. Eligible projects are in the early phases of project development.
The City of Seattle was awarded $2.4 million to plan for the replacement of the 4th Street Bridge over the Argo Railyard.
The Cape May County Bridge Commission in New Jersey was awarded $1.98 million to determine preliminary preferred alternatives to the replacement of the Corson’s Inlet, Grassy Sound, Great Channel, and Townsend Inlet bridges. Two bridges would be bundled into one large project, and the other two would be individual bridge projects.
The City of New York will receive $1.6 million to plan and develop a 30-year capital construction program for the Brooklyn, Ed Koch Queensboro, Manhattan, and Williamsburg bridges.
The City of Philadelphia will receive $1.56 million for a planning and feasibility study on rehabilitating 18 bridges.
