The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) recently announced $6 million to help improve access to affordable transportation in areas that currently lack efficient and convenient transit options.
“Transit can be a great equalizer, but for many Americans, such options are limited or simply don’t exist,” FTA Administrator Nuria Fernandez said. “This new program will help eliminate barriers to affordable transportation and improve access to jobs, school, healthcare, friends and family — all of the ingredients for a good quality of life.”
The FTA will work with one organization to develop and implement demonstrations that increase transportation access and evaluate outcomes and effectiveness.
The agency and the selected organization will partner, under the newly created Mobility, Access and Transportation Insecurity: Creating Links to Opportunity Program, to establish a research and demonstration program to improve access to affordable transportation options for common destinations.
The findings will be shared with the public so transit agencies, research organizations, and others can learn from and expand upon the insights.
Proposals must be submitted electronically through the GRANTS.gov portal by October 15.
The newly released Equity Action Plan, the Mobility, Access and Transportation Insecurity: Creating Links to Opportunity Program will address several Biden-Harris Administration priorities including investing in research and innovation.
