Transportation contracts announced during Nevada Transportation Board of Directors meeting on Monday July 11, are projected to support 85 jobs as well as help to provide a safe and connected transportation system.
The transportation department projected the contracts will support 85 jobs for one year. The state transportation improvements reviewed and approved at the board meeting included upgrades to two interstate bridges on I-80 near the State Route 229 junction in Elko County, replacement of a separate bridge on an adjacent frontage road, and the addition of a lane on I-15 from the Primm exit to the California border, a collaborative project with Caltrans.
Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) contracts are thoroughly reviewed against NDOT engineering estimates and include disadvantaged business enterprise participation goals. So far this year, Nevada state transportation project using Infrastructure Investment and jobs Act has supported 7,640 jobs, the office said. The Council of Economic Advisers formulas were used to estimate the number of direct, indirect and induced jobs. An estimate $1 invested in public transportation projects can generate between $2 and $6 in local economic activity.
