The Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America), an organization advancing the research and deployment of intelligent transportation technologies, recently released its Principles for Inclusive Future Mobility.
The guide, intended for transportation stakeholders, communities, and policy makers, was released at the ITS America’s Digital Infrastructure: Technology and the Future of Transportation forum. It highlights how to develop policy and programs that direct investments in technology and save lives, promote sustainability, and advance more access and opportunity for all.
It discusses the importance of integrating technology into infrastructure investments and examines how the U.S. transportation system has evolved to include sensors, data, software, and algorithms.
Finally, the guide asks industry officials to focus on users, re-imagine how they look at safety; cultivate sustainability and resiliency; champion equity, diversity, and inclusion in transportation and the work force; promote access and opportunity; and educate, engage, and convene stakeholders to listen and build consensus.
“Transportation creates opportunities – it connects us to jobs, healthcare, education, family, friends, and much more,” ITS America President and CEO Laura Chace said. “If we follow these principles to guide us as we develop and deploy technology, we directly advance our vision of a safer, greener, smarter future with more access and opportunity.”
