The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will hold a public hearing Friday to discuss the 2023-2027 Tentative Five-Year Transportation Facilities Construction Program.

The agency’s recommended plan for the next five years of statewide construction projects allocates $571 million for the widening of highways or improving interchanges; more than $2.5 billion in pavement preservation projects; $360 million annually for the preservation of bridges and roadways; and approximately $463 million in projects that improve highway safety, efficiency and functionality.

Projects include the widening of I-17 and I-10. These projects were advanced through ADOT’s partnership with the Maricopa Association of Governments, a regional planning agency with committed funds.

The Gila River bridges between Phoenix and Casa Grande will be widened in 2023 as part of the $83 million widening of I-10 to three lanes in each direction between Phoenix and Tucson.

I-17 will cost $469 million and add flex lanes from Black Canyon City to Sunset Point.

The hearing will be held at the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Community Tribal Council Chambers in Scottsdale and will be streamed online.

The public comment period began on March 18 and will run through June 2.

The State Transportation Board is expected to consider formal action on the program at its June 17 meeting.
