The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) recently appointed Veronica Vanterpool as deputy administrator.
Vanterpool previously served as senior advisor in the FTA Office of the Administrator. In that capacity, she coordinated and provided executive direction on the agency’s climate change, equity, innovation, safety, and workforce development work; led the FTA’s first listening session series on Transit Oriented Development; and provided oversight and guidance for the development of FTA’s first strategic plan published in more than 20 years.
She also serves as the FTA’s representative for the White House Interagency Policy Council Puerto Rico Working Group, the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation, and other groups.
“It is an honor to serve the transit-riding public in this leadership role alongside Administrator Fernandez and in partnership with the committed, talented team at FTA,” Vanterpool said. “I am excited to channel my commitment to improving transit through FTA’s vision and guidance.”
Vanterpool holds a Master of Science degree in Environmental Policy and Bachelor of Science degrees in Environmental Science and Political Science from Binghamton University.
Before joining the FTA, she worked as Delaware Transit Corp.’s chief innovation officer, Vision Zero Network deputy director, and New York City-based Tri-State Transportation Campaign executive director.
