The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) recently announced a highway study to re-examine solutions for a segment of WIS 175 known as the Stadium Freeway.
Stadium Freeway runs between West Wisconsin Avenue and Lisbon Avenue in Milwaukee. It was built 60 years ago and requires reconstruction to ensure acceptable traffic operations and improve the neighborhood.
The study will recommend solutions that address safety and mobility concerns in the surrounding neighborhoods.
“Any transportation project is about much more than asphalt, steel, and concrete. A successful project is an investment in the quality of the lives of people in our communities,” WisDOT Secretary Craig Thompson said during a meeting with community leaders in Milwaukee on Wednesday. “We will listen carefully to the input of local stakeholders to determine how WIS 175 can better connect adjacent neighborhoods, improve commercial vitality and, most importantly, enhance safety for all transportation modes that rely on it.”
Community involvement will be incorporated into the study. WisDOT’s partnerships and connections will strengthen a collaborative approach to the project.
“I’m confident the study of WIS 175 will deliver a solution to best meet the transportation needs of the people of Milwaukee and contribute to the livability and prosperity of the community,” Gov. Tony Evers said.
