The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission plans to invest up to $233 million this year on toll road modernization, mainline pavement replacement, resurfacing, bridge, and other projects.
Three mainline pavement replacement projects total $65.7 million. These projects will replace pavement, add new ramps and construct toll plazas in Mahoning, Trumbull, and Williams counties.
Five bridge projects will total $31.6 million. These projects will remove and repaint 11 bridges, widen bridges and replace decks in Cuyahoga/Summit, Fulton, Lorain/Cuyahoga, Mahoning, and Sandusky counties.
Four resurfacing projects total $36.2 million. These projects will remove and replace asphalt, upgrade guardrails and conduct other roadway work in Cuyahoga, Erie, Portage/Summit, and Wood/Ottawa/Sandusky counties).
Toll Collection System Modernization Projects will total $76.2 million. These projects will construct or renovate toll plazas in Lorain, Mahoning, Trumbull, and Williams counties.
It also includes infrastructure upgrades in Lucas/Wood/Sandusky/Erie/Lorain/Cuyahoga/Summit/Portage, and Trumbull counties;
Williams/Fulton/Trumbull/Mahoning counties; and Ottawa/Lorain/Portage counties.
In addition, travel soon will be faster for turnpike motorists.
“We are about one year away from open road tolling on the Ohio Turnpike, which is scheduled to debut in spring 2023,” Ferzan Ahmed, turnpike commission executive director, said. “Once complete, our E-ZPass customers will be able to travel the full length of the 241-mile Ohio Turnpike at highway speeds without stopping.”
