The Federal Transit Administration recently awarded the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) nearly $23 million in Buses and Bus Facilities Program grants to enhance green public transit in the Roaring Fork Valley.
The grant program provides funding for states to replace, rehabilitate, and purchase buses and related equipment.
CDOT received a $13.5 million grant on behalf of the Town of Snowmass Village. The village will construct a multimodal transit station that will improve operations for regional and local buses. The station will include accessibility features and safety measures addressing future pedestrian and vehicle touchpoints and bike and pedestrian improvements.
CDOT’s 10-Year Plan provides support for the project.
CDOT also received a $9.4 million grant on behalf of the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA). RFTA serves the Roaring Fork Valley. Service includes the communities of Basalt, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, and Snowmass Village.
Funding will be used to construct a bus maintenance and storage facility and support charging infrastructure. This will allow RFTA to enhance its maintenance capabilities to support a larger and modern zero-emission fleet.
Colorado, working with local partners, plans to apply for additional federal funding to expand transit and provide consumers with more options. One grant officials will pursue would support RFTA’s expanded operations in Glenwood Springs.
