Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2022-2023 would provide the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) with more than $600 million.

TDOT will receive $626.5 million to accelerate IMPROVE Act projects, road infrastructure projects in the state’s fastest-growing counties, interchange improvements in rural areas, and other projects.

This includes $3.5 million for the Transportation Equity Fund, $4 million for Enhanced Litter Removal, $77 million for Economic Development Projects, $100 million for IMPROVE Act Acceleration, $176 million for the Rural Interchange Improvement Program, and $266 million for the State Highway Partnership Program.

“We have an obligation to future generations to invest in our roads and bridges and propel economic growth,” Lee said. “Tennessee’s strong fiscal position allows us to make strategic investments in infrastructure and ensure progress on critical projects across the state.”

“Tennessee is one of only five states with no transportation debt,” TDOT Commissioner Joe Galbato said. “We are excited and grateful for the additional funding that will no doubt keep us in good financial health and accommodate the ever-growing needs of our citizens,” added Galbato.

TDOT has 22 new projects planned statewide for the fiscal year to address economic development, state highways, and Rural Interchange Improvements.
