The U.S. Department of Transportation recently awarded Cleveland Metroparks $950,000 through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grants program to design four regional transportation projects on the city’s East Side.

The grant will support a $1.5 million planning project that leverages local funding from Cleveland Metroparks and the city of Cleveland.

“We’re thrilled to advance these projects on Cleveland’s East Side that will have significant local and regional impacts on the region,” Brian M. Zimmerman, Cleveland Metroparks CEO, said.

Two projects move into the feasibility stage while the other two projects move into the design stage. The projects, encompassing 5.7 miles of trail and bicycle connections, are collectively called the RAISE Cleveland Bicycle & Pedestrian Planning project.

The trails include:

-A 0.8-mile all-purpose trail completing the Morgana Run Trail to the Mill Creek Falls area of Garfield Park Reservation. It will also connect to other trails.
-A 2.2-mile bicycle connection from the Slavic Village neighborhood and completed Morgana Run Trail to the Towpath Trail.
-A 0.7-mile connection from the Western Terminus of Opportunity Corridor Trail to the Slavic Village Downtown Connector Trail.
-A two-mile bicycle connection between the lower Euclid Creek Reservation to its lakefront portion.
