On Monday, Frontier Airlines began providing flights four times a week to Orlando International Airport from New York Stewart International Airport, approximately 60 miles north of Manhattan in the Hudson Valley.
Frontier also will offer flights to Miami and Tampa three times a week starting Nov. 2.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is working to attract more carriers and routes to the airport. It met with numerous carriers, including Frontier, to discuss the New York Stewart market and new opportunities. An updated incentive program included in the port authority’s five-point strategic plan helped secure Frontier as a carrier.
The five-point plan also includes the development of a joint marketing strategy with key businesses and attractions in the Hudson Valley to promote the airport; leveraging partnerships with regional and state agencies, and tourism and trade organizations to promote the airport; hiring a marketing firm to increase the airport’s visibility in the Hudson Valley region and the international marketplace and strengthen the airport’s brand; and enter into an agreement with a new airport operator.
The new operator is Future Stewart Partner. The agreement includes collaborating with the port authority to attract new air service and building a modern concessions program.
