The winners of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) awards were announced Sept. 27 during the association’s national convention in Pinehurst, N.C.

The Southern California Contractors Association (SCCA), and United Contractors won an ARTBA Award for their work preventing the repeal of revenue increases supporting California’s Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.

Proposition 6, a 2018 voter referendum, would have gutted the act’s 10-year, $54 billion investment in roads, bridges, public transit and safety enhancements.

SCCA and United Contractors lead a diverse coalition of transportation investment supporters. The coalition mobilized a voter education campaign. Voters defeated the proposition.

The National Park Service won an ARTBA Award for management and leadership in the renovation of the Arlington Memorial Bridge. The project was completed on time and on budget. Kiewit and AECOM, ARTBA member firms, were project team leads.

The bridge, which now has a 75-year lifespan, connects Arlington National Cemetery with Washington D.C., near the Lincoln Memorial.

ARTBA Awards recognize individuals and organization for outstanding contributions that advance the broad goals of the association. Recipients include executives from government and the private sector of the transportation construction industry, two U.S. secretaries of transportation, dozens of top leaders, several governors, and more than 25 U.S.senators or representatives.
