The City of Pittsburgh Department of Mobility and Infrastructure (DOMI) recently released its 2070 Mobility Vision Plan, a long range vision for the future of mobility in Pittsburgh.
“When we think about Pittsburgh, we think about innovation and that includes our transportation and mobility networks,” Mayor William Peduto said. “After working with the community to define their vision for the future of transportation in Pittsburgh, DOMI has outlined a strategic path forward of what could be possible in the next five, 20 and 50 years.”
The plan is a strategic roadmap for a just, efficient, accessible and sustainable transportation system over the next 50 years. It outlines ways to maintain past investments, meet future mobility needs, and address current disparities.
It also contains short- and long-term projects. Shorter-term projects include investing in green infrastructure street retrofits, a complete and connected bike network, and accessible sidewalks. Long-term projects include rapid direct transit to Pittsburgh International Airport, an urban terminal for vertical take-off and landing aircraft, three new river crossings, high-speed intercity transit, and
an aerial gondola network.
The plan relies on DOMI’s core values of safety, equity and resiliency.
While preparing the plan, DOMI staff reviewed projects, plans and community input.
