The Virginia Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) recently approved three contracts totaling $25.7 million and approved multiple projects to be funded by the Interstate Operations and Enhancement Program.
The projects were identified through performance-based corridor improvement plans and added to the Six-Year Improvement Program. Many projects will be begin construction next year.
The three contracts are:
- Southern Road & Bridge from Florida was awarded a $5.7 million contract for six bridge repairs in the Hampton Roads District. Work is expected to be completed in 2023.
- Allegheny Construction Co. from Virginia was awarded a $5.8 million contract for safety and connectivity improvements on 13th Street southeast between Church Avenue and Norfolk Avenue in Roanoke’s Salem District. Work is expected to be completed in 2023.
- Joseph B. Fay Co. from Pennsylvania was awarded a $14.2 million contract to extend Route 1050 south to Russell Branch Parkway in Loudoun County. Work is expected to be completed in 2024.
“The Commonwealth is focusing on performance-based planning, using big data to identify critical transportation problems at a corridor level,” Secretary of Transportation Shannon Valentine said. “This approach enables us to execute targeted solutions that most effectively address underlying transportation challenges and explore alternatives before committing to major capital investments.”
