EVgo, a charging network for electric vehicles (EVs) powered by 100 percent renewable electricity, recently installed eight public fast chargers in Santa Monica, Calif.
The Level 3 chargers can provide a full charge in 15-45 minutes. Six chargers are high-powered 350-kilowatt chargers, capable of delivering 180 miles in 15 minutes, while the other two are 100-kilowatt chargers, capable of delivering 90 miles in 15 minutes.
The chargers will support the City of Santa Monica’s Electric Vehicle Action Plan.
“Santa Monica residents have long been early adopters of electric vehicles, and the City is in strong support of expanded EV charging infrastructure to support them and bring cleaner air benefits,” Mayor Sue Himmelrich said. “EVgo’s new charging stations at Lot 29 are a good example of public-private partnership accelerating the adoption of EVs, and we are excited to partner with a local company to bring more charging infrastructure to our community.”
The California Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project partially funded the purchase of the chargers. The project offers incentives for the purchase and installation of EV charging infrastructure at publicly accessible sites.
Himmelrich, EVgo CEO Cathy Zoi, and other officials attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 27.
The city owns 150 Level 2 chargers with more planned.
