The Maine Department of Transportation will begin shifting northbound I-95 traffic onto the third of eight new interstate bridges in Hampden starting July 14.
The work is part of the Hampden Bridge Bundle Project which will rebuild eight bridges along a four-mile stretch of I-95 between Exits 174 and 180 and rehabilitate a ninth.
Replacements will be completed on both the northbound and southbound routes. One bridge pair crosses Emerson Mill Road and the Central Maine & Quebec Railway, while three bridge pairs cross the Souadabscook Stream. One bridge rehabilitation involves Cold Brook Road over I-95.
This month’s work involves the Center Bridge crossing the Souadabscook Stream. It is the third of the four northbound bridges the department is replacing.
Northbound traffic will be diverted onto a temporary bridge.
Speed limits will be reduced to 55 miles per hour at the worksite, approximately running from mile marker 179 to mile marker 180.
The bridge is expected to be completed later this summer. If there is inclement weather, the traffic shift will be postponed until the next day.
Cianbro Corp. is the contractor for the $44.8 million Hampden Bridge Bundle Project, which has a projected completion date of Nov. 30, 2022.
