A total of 1,000 Level 2 electric vehicle chargers have been installed across Pennsylvania with funding from the state Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Driving PA Forward program.
“We know Pennsylvanians are increasingly interested in electric vehicles for their health and environmental benefits, as well as lower fueling and maintenance costs,” DEP Secretary Patrick McDonnell said. “Many people are asking, is the charging infrastructure in place to let me go where I want to go? Companies, local governments, and organizations are stepping up to fill this need.”
The chargers were installed in more than 300 locations in 39 counties. Approximately one-third were installed at workplaces, more than half the chargers at public places, and the rest at multi-unit residential properties.
In addition, 140 funded charging station projects are in process. When completed, these projects will bring the number of counties with at least one charger funded through the program to 45.
In February, 28,460 electric vehicles were registered in the state, according to Pennsylvania Department of Transportation data. In December 2017, that figure was 11,347 vehicles.
In Pennsylvania, there are now more than 1,600 public Level 2 chargers installed at more than 800 locations statewide.
