The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) recently awarded $3.11 million through the Annual Grant Program to cities and counties statewide for road and bridge projects.
Thirteen projects were selected, and a total of $2 million in local matching funds was provided. However, matching funds are not required to be eligible for the grants.
The program requires projects to begin within one year of receiving funds, and several projects will be under contract by the end of the year.
“Improving Alabama’s infrastructure remains a top priority of the Ivey administration, and thanks to Rebuild Alabama, we are continually able to put these funds to good use,” Gov. Kay Ivey said. “More and more communities and cities across our state are seeing new road and bridge projects in their areas, and I look forward to that continuing. When we invest in our roads and bridges, we are investing in our people and our future.”
The Rebuild Alabama Act, signed into law in 2019, requires ALDOT to establish an annual program for local projects using $10 million from the state’s share of new gas tax revenue.
The Annual Grant Program awarded $4.93 million in funding earlier this year to 21 local projects. In 2020, $10.2 million was awarded for local projects.
