The Idaho Transportation Board recently approved dozens of new road projects statewide.

Several projects are part of Gov. Brad Little’s Building Idaho’s Future transportation funding plan, and $350 million in construction work is expected to begin next year.

A total of $170 million in Transportation Expansion and Congestion Mitigation (TECM) funds was approved to expand Idaho State Highway 16 from its current location at US 20/26 to Interstate 84.

A total of $37 million in TECM funds was approved to expand US-20/26 to four lanes from Middleton Road to I-84.

Both projects are expected to be under construction next year.

The Idaho Transportation Department will use TECM funds as part of Building Idaho’s Future bonding program.

“Project development is very important. The board wants the department to have projects ready for the Building Idaho’s Future program and to be constantly advancing additional work for any future federal or state funding opportunities,” Bill Moad, Idaho Transportation Board chairman, said. “It is our goal to put the money to work as soon as it becomes available.”

The board also approved nearly $170 million for project development and approximately $140 million in projects with one-time funds from the Building Idaho’s Future program, federal and state COVID Relief funds.
