The U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation recently advanced bipartisan legislation that would facilitate collaboration between federal agencies and civil aviation industry leaders to developing policies regarding advanced air mobility (AAM).

The Advanced Air Mobility Coordination and Leadership Act would instruct the U.S. Department of Transportation secretary to lead a working group tasked with reviewing policies and programs that help advance the maturation of AAM aircraft operations. The group also would issue recommendations on safety, security, and federal investments regarding the AAM development.

The working group would be comprised of members from nine government agencies. The group would work with the civil aviation industry.

U.S. Sens. Jerry Moran (R-KS) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) introduced the bill.

“American aviation is entering a new era of innovation and growth, and industry leaders should have a seat at the table as the federal government creates programs to advance the development of this technology and sets safety and operation standards,” Moran said. “Advancing this legislation through the committee is an important step to make certain Kansas aviation leaders have a role in developing policies designed to shape a new chapter in aviation.”

The bill now moves to the full Senate for consideration.

The legislation has the support of numerous organizations.
