The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is participating in United for Infrastructure Week now through Friday.

United for Infrastructure Week highlights the need for prioritizing crucial investments in our nation’s infrastructure. It is aimed at the public and policymakers.

This year’s theme is Lead with Infrastructure. It means asking for a commitment from federal and local partners and stakeholders to encourage lawmakers to make decisions that provide impactful and long-lasting investments to the transportation system.

“In Louisiana, we face unique challenges, right down to the very soil on which we build our roads,” Shawn D. Wilson, DOTD secretary, said. “We’ve weathered historic hurricanes, winter storms, and a worldwide pandemic, all with our distinctive Louisiana resiliency. But we steadfastly work every day to maintain our existing infrastructure, modernize our transportation system, address traffic and congestion needs, and capitalize on every available dollar to invest in our roadways.”

Throughout the week, DOTD encourages residents to visit the agency’s social media platforms for additional information and share the message of what can be accomplished when Louisianans work toward a common goal.

DOTD will be host a virtual panel Thursday with past department secretaries. They will discuss their experiences and provide perspectives on the importance of prioritizing infrastructure.
