The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) recently awarded $47.3 million to 39 bridge projects statewide through Local Bridge Fund grants.
The fund is a $47.3 million program funded through the Transportation Trust Fund. It provides each of New Jersey’s 21 counties with funding for county bridge improvements.
Projects are awarded for the repair, reconstruction, and replacement of bridges with structural deficiencies.
“By providing grants to improve county-owned bridges throughout the state, we are helping local governments make critical infrastructure investments that improve the reliability of our statewide transportation network without having to impact local property taxes,” NJDOT Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti said.
Projects were awarded between $346,089 and $2.8 million.
The largest projects include:
- The Passaic Avenue Bridge over Saddle Brook in Bergen County, $2.8 million.
- The replacement of Nacote Creek Bridge in Atlantic County, $2.4 million.
- Four minor culverts and the Lakeside Avenue culvert in Essex County, $2.2 million.
The NJDOT Division of Local Aid and Economic Development administers the grants, and the Department’s Bureau of Structural Engineering evaluated them.
Local Aid grants represent a significant portion of the NJDOT’s Local System Support, which also includes regional planning and project development, local lead projects, transportation alternatives projects, and municipal aid.
