The Tennessee Department of Transportation recently released its annual three-year transportation program, with this year including approximately $2.6 billion in infrastructure investments in 68 projects statewide.
The majority of the projects involve bridge replacement or repair with 34 bridges on local roads and 21 on the state highway system.
During fiscal year 2022, construction will begin on several projects, including phase two of the I-75 interchange modification at I-24 in Hamilton County; the I-55 interchange modification at Crump Boulevard in Shelby County; Newport Highway in Sevier and Jefferson counties; the relocation of Alcoa Highway in Blount County; and Nolensville Pike from Old Hickory Boulevard to Mill Creek in Davidson County.
The program also includes partial plans for fiscal years 2023 and 2024. The HELP and Incident Management Programs will fund multimodal projects. Funding also will be provided to Metropolitan and Rural Planning Organizations and transit agencies.
“Investing in infrastructure is an important part of driving economic opportunity throughout our state,” Gov. Bill Lee said. “This funding, particularly for rural Tennessee, will help to keep Tennesseans safe and moving in the right direction.”
Lee’s first executive order funded 58 highway and bridge projects in economically distressed and at-risk counties.
