Louisiana’s House Joint Transportation, Highways and Public Works Committee recently approved priority infrastructure projects for fiscal year 2021-2022.
Projects include aviation, highways, ports, and flood control.
“The actions that were taken by the Joint Transportation Committee will provide DOTD (the Department of Transportation and Development) the authority to move forward with projects to address capacity, preservation, safety, and congestion, as well as projects for our airports and ports that will provide an economic impact for our local communities,” Rep. Vincent Pierre (D- Lafayette Parish), committee chairman, said.
DOTD funding will be divided among four programs.
The Airport Construction and Development Priority Program will receive more than $28.2 million for 60 projects totaling more than $84.1 million.
The Highway Priority Program will receive an estimated $1.02 billion for congestion mitigation, local road safety programs, highway preservation, road transfers, safety, and operations.
The Port Construction and Development Priority Program will add three new projects to a list of 19 previously approved projects awaiting funding. Collectively, the 22 projects will cost $544 million in construction costs and require $181 million in state funding.
The Statewide Flood Control Priority Program will add two new projects to the list of eight previously approved projects awaiting funding.
