Washington D.C. recently kicked off the 2021 paving season with a series of events.

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is installing the 16th Street bus lane, designed to improve transportation through the corridor. It is expected to be completed before Spring 2022.

“The 16th Street bus lane is going to be a game-changer for everyone who travels this corridor,” Mayor Muriel Bowser said. “Throughout this year-long public health emergency, many of our agencies have been quietly working behind the scenes to keep D.C. moving forward and to deliver high-quality services to our community. We are proud to highlight that work and to draw attention to the many ways residents in all eight wards can support their efforts.”

DDOT also launched its annual PaveDC campaign. Over the next few months, DDOT will repair 109 alleys and 369 blocks of sidewalks and pave more than 85 miles of roadway.

The Mayor’s Office of the Clean City coordinated this year’s Annual Spring Cleanup on Saturday. The cleanup encourages residents to work together to beautify homes, blocks, and neighborhoods. There were more than 75 events citywide.

An eight-week recycling cart tagging campaign will launch this week, reminding residents not to put unacceptable items in their recycling.
