The industrial technology firm FLIR Systems has unveiled a pair of artificial intelligence (AI) equipped traffic system cameras, optimizing traffic flow on roads and intersections.
When combined with the FLIR Acyclica cloud platform, the TrafiSense AI camera with thermal imaging and the TrafiCam AI visible camera cities can prevent congestion and potential accidents while continuously creating safer roads for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
“FLIR traffic systems are currently installed in 75 countries, and with the addition of TrafiSense AI and TrafiCam AI, FLIR now offers a fully integrated solution that enables traffic engineers and city planners to apply AI-based learnings to continuously optimize traffic flow,” Rickard Lindvall, general manager, Solutions Business, FLIR Systems, said. “The integrated solution enables cities to improve urban roadway design to make cities safer and more livable.”
The equipment’s scope of operation involves aiding efforts to control traffic at the edge through real-time data capture and processing, officials said, providing input to traffic signal controllers at intersections – improving traffic flow and safety in real-time.
The ability to capture heat energy data through a thermal sensor within the TrafiSense AI and a visible low-light, high-definition sensor within the TrafiCam AI enables continuous monitoring in all weather conditions, per FLIR Systems.
The company noted the new AI traffic cameras would be available globally during the first quarter of 2021.
