The Mississippi Transportation Commission awarded contracts for more than a dozen maintenance projects during its Oct. 13 meeting.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation will oversee the 13 projects that will maintain and enhance transportation infrastructure.
“These projects will make our highways safer and make Mississippi a better place to live and work,” MDOT Executive Director Melinda McGrath said. “All of our projects, whether pavement overlays or bridge replacements, help ensure the businesses and people of Mississippi have efficient and reliable infrastructure for travel and transport of goods and services.”
Among the contracts awarded were $22.5 million to C.E.C, Inc., of Lafayette, Louisiana for bridge rehabilitation on State Route 605 over Industrial Waterway in Harrison County; $2.7 million to Huey P. Stockstill, LLC, of Picayune, Miss., for a paving project along State Routes 603, 52 and 43; and $1.2 million to W.E. Blain & Sons for a paving project along U.S. Highway 80.
“These projects will help MDOT continue to provide safe and reliable transportation to Mississippi’s traveling public,” Commissioner Tom King, Chair, Mississippi Transportation Commission, said. “A robust transportation network is vital for economic development.”
Much of the projects’ funding came from lottery proceeds.
The commission also ratified three emergency contracts to repair storm damage in the Northern Transportation District, including $1 million to Century Construction Group, Inc., of Tupelo, for repairs on Interstate 22; $436,066 to Xcavators, Inc., of Falkner, for repairs to State Route 15; and $938,957 to Cook & Son, LLC, of Smithville, for repairs on State Route 178.
