Wright Brothers Construction Company, Inc. has been awarded a $31,994,789.60 Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) contract to modify a pair of Interstate 24 interchanges in Chattanooga.
The work would be performed at State Route 2 and State Route 58. The 1.6-mile project’s scope of work involves replacing the loops and ramps serving as exits and entrances of I-24 East and U.S. 27 to Broad Street, Williams Street, and Market Street with a new one-way ramp and frontage road.
“We are excited that this long-awaited project is beginning in Chattanooga,” TDOT Commissioner Clay Bright said. “Once completed, this project will improve connectivity to the Historic Foundry District and South Broad commercial corridor and make it much easier for local and regional traffic to safely access this area.”
The project is also slated to include bridge and retaining wall construction and installation of new traffic signals and lighting, per authorities, who estimated the project is scheduled for completion on or before Aug. 31, 2023.
Work crews are in the beginning stages of utility relocation and construction signs have been installed. Most of the work would be executed on the south side of I-24.
TDOT has encouraged motorists to be cautious when traveling through the construction zone and pay attention to all posted signage.
