North Dakota’s Department of Transportation announced it will award more than $2 million in funding for Transportation Alternatives (TA) projects across the state.
NDDOT Director Bill Panos said the grants for the TA projects, which encourage active modes of transportation, are made possible through federal funding that is administered by the NDDOT.
“This program plays a key role in increasing safety and promoting healthy lifestyles through active transportation alternatives, which make North Dakota a better place to live and work,” Panos said.
The grants are given out each year in local communities for projects that include pedestrian and bicycle facilities, Safe Routes to School projects, community improvement activities, and environmental mitigation projects.
The urban projects included $290,000 for Edison Elementary School Safe Routes to School program in Minot and $168,237 for Old Red Trail Phase 2 in Mandan. Rural projects included $200,000 for the 3rd Street SW Multi-Use Trail in Beach/Golden Valley County and $182,129 for ADA Ramps & Sidewalk Corridor in Linton/Emmons County.
