The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded 32 construction contracts totaling more than $58.5 million for road and bridges projects across the state.
The recent contract awards bring the total construction contract amount for Fiscal Year 2020 to $672.5 million.
The largest contract was given to Oxford Construction Company to construct 0.578 miles of bridges and approaches on States Route 37 over Pachitla Creek in Calhoun County for approximately $6.3 million. The GDOT said contracts for bridge construction represented 17 percent of the total spending.
The second-largest contract was given to C. W. Matthews Contracting Co., for resurfacing 20.57 miles of milling, plant mix resurfacing and should rehabilitation on State Route 224 in Houston and Macon counties for a total of $4.8 million. Resurfacing projects like this and 14 other ones across the state accounted for 61 percent of the awarded contracts.
The remaining 22 percent of funds were awarded to projects for safety and bridge rehabilitation.
