Sens. Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) are seeking industry feedback regarding COVID-19 impacts on the passenger transportation network.
The firsthand insights and experiences would aid the process of informing how to learn from the situation and respond to it, as well as future crises that may arise.
The lawmakers said the COVID-19 crisis has brought new challenges to the nation, describing the resilience and resourcefulness demonstrated by front line workers as remarkable.
“The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation would welcome your feedback and additional information regarding the impacts of COVID-19 on our passenger transportation system and the industry’s response to these challenges,” Wicker, chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, and Cantwell, ranking member of the Committee, wrote in correspondence to a group of industry organizations.
Questions include what impacts have you seen from COVID-19 on passenger transportation operations and how have you responded to these impacts?; what are your expectations for continued impacts on the passenger transportation system in the near future and its response to a reopening of the economy?; what impacts do you anticipate for the passenger transportation system in the long term?; and how have critical infrastructure employees been affected during the COVID-19 crisis?
