From June 3 to June 12, the Federal Aviation Administration will hold 12 virtual public workshops to get public feedback on the Draft Environmental Assessment for the South-Central Florida Metroplex project.
A plan to modernize air traffic procedures for 21 airports in the southern half of Florida, the Metroplex project is designed to enhance safety and efficiency across the region.
The project will introduce new Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) procedures, using satellite-based technology, and conventional procedures to link larger airports like Miami International Airport in Miami and Tampa International Airport in Tampa to smaller airports like Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport in Fort Lauderdale and Witham Field near Palm Beach.
As part of the plan, the FAA has drafted an environmental assessment of its actions on May 11. A public comment period about the assessment ends on July 10.
During the virtual workshops, the FAA will give an overview of the assessment and air traffic control experts will be on hand to answer residents’ questions. Residents can view the schedule for the workshops, as well as other information about the project at the Community Involvement South Central Florida web site.
The FAA is expected to release an environmental determination September 2020 that considers all the comments received online through virtual workshops and other means.
