The Iowa Department of Transportation is looking for public comments on its long-range plan for that state’s public transit.

The public transit plan supports the state’s current transportation plan “Iowa in Motion 2045” and will provide direction for the development of Iowa in Motion 2050. These plans will help the state efficiently plan and manage resources for the state’s public transit system.

Stakeholders and the general public are encouraged to provide comments on the plan to refine it before the final draft is issued.

The plan is updated every five years and looks at specific strategies and improvements that need to be implemented and revisited over time. The prior state transportation plan, adopted in 2012, only looked at policy issues.

In the current plan, adopted in 2017, the department used extensive internal and external stakeholder and public input throughout the plan’s development. It included a multimodal action plan with specific modal strategies and improvement needs.

A copy of the plan is available on the Iowa DOT website.

Directions for comments and feedback are located at the top of the page. Once the public comment period has ended, the feedback will be used to improve and fine-tune the plan. Public comment is open now through Wednesday, July 1.

After final changes are made, the plan will be given to the Iowa Transportation Commission for final approval and publication.
