The Mississippi Transportation Commission has awarded contracts for 14 statewide road maintenance projects officials said would enhance overall transportation infrastructure.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) will oversee the projects. MDOT will release additional information regarding timelines and impacts to traffic before the start of construction while alerting the traveling public before any changes in traffic are set.
“These projects will make our highways safer and make Mississippi a better place to live and work,” Melinda McGrath, MDOT executive director, said. “All of our projects, whether pavement overlays or bridge replacements, help ensure the businesses and people of Mississippi have efficient and reliable infrastructure for travel and transport of goods and services.”
The awards include a $13.8 million contract to T. L. Wallace Construction, Inc., of Columbia, Miss., for three bridge replacement projects on State Route 35 in Attala County and U.S. Highway 49 in Tallahatchie County and a $3 million contract to W.E. Blain & Sons, Inc., of Mount Olive, Miss., for a mill and overlay project on I-20 from Pearson Road to Crossgates in Rankin County.
“These projects will help MDOT continue to provide safe and reliable transportation to Mississippi’s traveling public,” Mississippi Transportation Commission Chairman Tom King said.
Commissioner John Caldwell, of the Northern Transportation District, said safety remains MDOT’s top priority.
“These projects will significantly increase the safety and mobility throughout north Mississippi,” he said.
