An American Automobile Association (AAA) analysis has determined the nation’s weekly gas price average is six cents more expensive at $1.84.
“Pump prices are fluctuating throughout the country as demand increases and gasoline stocks decrease,” Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson, said. “The boost in demand continues to push pump prices up around the country, as more states re-open businesses. Motorists in the Great Lakes, Central, South, and Southeast states are seeing the most volatility at the pump.”
Regardless of the national increase, 40 states still have averages of $2 or less per gallon. The Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) latest data report revealed gas demand rose by 800,000 barrels per day (b/d) to 6.7 million b/d last week – representing 3.2 million b/d less than this point in time last year. The EIA shows gas demand is expected to continue to grow, leading pump prices to keep increasing.
The AAA breakdown showed Michigan rests atop the list of states with the greatest weekly price gains, followed by Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Iowa, Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
The least expensive markets are Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Kansas, Texas, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Louisiana.
The AAA said motorists can find current gas prices with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad, and Android. The app can also be used to map a route, find discounts, book a hotel, and access AAA roadside assistance.
