The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) began implementing new flight paths for the Denver area on March 26.
Known as the Denver Metroplex project, the project works to improve the efficiency of airspace in the greater Denver area by optimizing aircraft arrival and departure procedures to and from Denver International Airport (DEN), Centennial Airport (APA), Greeley-Weld County Airport (GXY), Northern Colorado Regional Airport (FNL), and Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (BJC).
“The comprehensive project will use satellite navigation to move air traffic more safely and efficiently through the area. It includes 29 new routes and modifications to 15 existing routes,” the FAA said in a release.
The implementation of the project came after extensive community involvement, the agency said. To determine the environmental impact of the changes, the FAA held 24 public workshops; conducted 78 briefings for community groups, airport officials, and local, state and federal officials; and evaluated more than 1,800 public comments.
The FAA issues a “Finding of No Significant Impact-Record of Decision” regarding the project on Jan. 24, 2020.
